The NAJRAE scholarships are presented annually at the NAJRAE awards banquet in conjunction with the NAJRAE summer show. The total amount awarded will be no less than $500 and at least two scholarships will be awarded if more than two applications are received. The scholarship application is the basis on who will be awarded the scholarships. One must fill out a scholarship application to be considered.
QUALIFICATIONS

  1. Applicant must be a high school graduate.
  2. Applicant must be enrolled in a College, University, Vocational School, Trade School, or Apprenticeship/Journeyman Training Program.
  3. Applicant must be a member of NAJRAE and must be participating in NAJRAE events and activities at the time of application.
  4. Applicant has not previously been awarded a Legacy Scholarship (this does not include the Legacy heifer project).

REQUIRED FORMS FOR APPLICATION

  • · Applicant must include two (2) letters of recommendation. Each letter of recommendation must come from a different category. Recommendations may not be from a family member or relative of the applicant.
  1. 4-H, FFA, or Breed Volunteer:  4-H County Agent or County Youth Coordinator, 4-H Club Leader or Authorized Volunteer, FFA Instructor, Beef Livestock Association Advisor
  2. School Officials:  Principal, Superintendent, Counselor, Instructor
  3. Religious Affiliations: Clergy, Youth Advisor or Instructor
  4. Employer
  5. Red Angus Breeder

If the application is not complete and does not include the required attachments, the applicant will be immediately disqualified.
IF AWARDED

  • The scholarship winner(s) will receive a certificate and letter at the banquet
  • The scholarship winner(s) must use the scholarship within two and one-half (2 ½) years from the time it was awarded. If the scholarship has not been used within that time, it will be forfeited.
  • The scholarship winner(s) must provide proof of enrollment in the form of a Student ID#, acceptance letter to a training program, receipt of enrollment, or copy of the education bill to the NAJRAE Treasurer
  • The scholarship winner(s) must provide the address to send payment on their behalf. The scholarship will be paid directly to the University, College, Trade School, Training Program, or Apprentice Ship/Journeyman program.

The NAJRAE Junior Board of Directors shall develop and carry out all programs of the NAJRAE. In addition, the Board of Directors shall serve as a communication link between the membership, senior board, and the junior advisors.  Directors shall serve for one two-year term. To be eligible for election, board candidates must be at least seventeen by show date and must not have reached their twenty-second birthday before January 1 of their election year. All applicants must have attended and or exhibited at least one year. To be eligible for election the following criteria must be met:
 

  • Board candidates must be at least 16 by show date and must not have reached their twenty-second birthday before January 1 of their election year.
  • All applicants must have attended and exhibited at the NAJRAE for least one year, participated in at least two satellite events, and any of the steer, bull, or female shows held during the NAJRAE.

Election Process:
 

  • Interview - 35%:  The interviewers are to consist of one senior board member (chosen by the senior board), the current junior board president, a junior board advisor, and a breeder/industry leader.
  • Popular Vote - 25%:  All paid junior members 8 years of age as of January 1st will be allowed to vote by paper ballot.  Ballot counting to be done by a committee of one Senior Board Member, one Junior Board member, and one layperson or past Senior Board Member.  Applicants will be given 2-3 minutes at an event and time to be determined to state who they are, their background, and why they ran for the board.
  • Interaction - 20%: Participation throughout the barn measured by the junior board. While in session, the board will then proceed to a vote.  The interaction will be based on the candidate's Initiative, Compatibility, Work Ethic
  • Application - 10%:  Application will be judged on 1) Was it filled out correctly, 2) Was it accurate to the Applicant,  3) Was a quality picture submitted (For Interns to create a meet the candidate's Poster), 4) No Errors  The form must be a completed submittable application, a recent photo, essay, code of conduct, and reference letters. All photos, code of conduct, and reference letters will need to be uploaded through the online application system.
  • Herdsmanship Quiz - 10%:  Points will be awarded based on the scores among Junior Board applicants.

The royalty of the Association shall consist of a Queen and a Princess. Their responsibility is to assist the Junior Board with planning the NAJRAE and the activities throughout the five day event during the summer. They will also represent the NAJRAE at other Red Angus state, regional and national events and/or at other industry groups and businesses. To be eligible for election the following criteria must be met:

  • Queen candidates must be at least sixteen by show date and must not have reached their twenty-second birthday before January 1 of their election year.
  • Princess candidates must be at least thirteen  by show date and must not have reached their sixteenth birthday before January 1 of their election year.
  • Candidates may not serve consecutive terms in each classification. (For example, a candidate may not serve back to back terms as a princess or queen.)
  • All applicants must have attended and or exhibited at the NAJRAE for least one year, participate in at least two satellite events and any of the steer, bull or female shows held during the 2023 NAJRAE.
  • All candidates must participate in at least two satellite events including the Herdsman Quiz and the Showmanship show held during the NAJRAE.
  • Selection will be based on the individual’s interview, essay, scrapbook and involvement in the Red Angus breed along with their leadership qualities and capabilities.
  • Candidates are to write a 750-1,000 word essay within the application on why the candidate would like to be royalty and how the candidate would promote the Red Angus breed.
  • Applicants will be interviewed by a committee during the show.
  • The applicants will work with the current NAJRAE board through the week. The announcement of the new royalty court will be at the banquet Friday night.
  • Applicants must be willing to participate in conference calls, respond to emails/voicemails and be active participants with the NAJRAE social media platforms and website updates. Regarding social media, you will advised, as a representative of NAJRAE to be careful of what is put on your social media accounts. You will be a mentor to many young juniors who may want to be friends with you.
  • Contestants must be single never married and must not become married or pregnant during their one year reign.
  • The Queen/Princess must assume appropriate conduct at all times.
  • Attire for royalty will be refined western wear suitable for the times. This will be discussed and agreed upon each year by the royalty, advisors and committee.
  • Application guidelines include: completed application, a recent photo, essay, photo book (8.5"x11", 20 page in size from Snapfish, Shutterfly or Wal-Mart) due at check-in at the show, showmanship contest and two reference letters (personal recommendation and an advisor/breeder.)

The contest is designed to give exhibitors an opportunity to gain the interview skills needed when seeking a job in the ag industry, specifically the cattle industry. Each part of this contest demonstrates “real world” situations that will be used by employees. Exhibitors must choose a real-world job in the Cattle industry specifically the Red Angus breed.
Applicant must be 16 as of January 1, 2024 to participate. Applicant must for, the purpose of the contest, “apply” for one of the real-world jobs within the cattle industry listed on the application.
Application, cover letter, resume, and a list of references must be submitted by June 10 by 11:59 pm central!

The contest is designed to give exhibitors an opportunity sharpen their artistic skills in the advertising and promotion world. 

Novice and Junior applicants will create a tack box sticker to promote the FUZION Event by NAJRAE. 

Intermediates applicants will design a facebook marketing advertisement to promote the FUZION Event by NAJRAE. 

Senior applicants will create a logo, style, and theme for the FUZION Event by NAJRAE. 


All designs must be submitted along with Exhibitors Name, Birthdate and age division by June 10 by 11:59 pm central!
